Dr. Alexander Doctoroff grew up in Kharkov, Ukraine. He completed three and a half years of medical school at Kharkov Medical Institute before immigrating to the United States in 1992. As foreign medical education is not transferable in this country, Dr. Doctoroff repeated his medical school studies in the United States. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1998. Following a year residency in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Doctoroff completed his Dermatology residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. He also elected to have additional training in dermatologic research, earning his Master of Science.Dr. Doctoroff has been ranked first in his class in the country during the second and third year of dermatology residency by results of in-training examination. He has been the recipient of multiple dermatologic awards for excellence. These include Allergan-AOCD Resident Paper Competition Award, Stelwagon-Kroll Award, Dr. Daniel Koprince Educational Award, and Dr. Albert P. Ulrich Research Award. Dr. Doctoroff has authored multiple publications in national dermatologic journals. Additionally, he recently contributed a chapter to a premier resource to dermatologists worldwide, a book entitled “Treatment of Skin Disease”, edited by Mark Lebwohl et. al.
Dr. Doctoroff is Board Certified in Dermatology and is on staff of St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Dr. Doctoroff is Assistant Chief of Dermatology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in East Orange. He teaches medical residents and students at UMDNJ, where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is the current Vice President of the New Jersey Dermatological Society.
